Sobre as eleições americanas há mais do que é possível (desejável) indicar aqui. Aqui estão algumas ligações:
- Joan Walsh - Political Commentary and News - Salon: "Having confessed to not fully getting the Barack Obama phenomenon upon leaving Iowa, I've worked harder to see it in New Hampshire. Here's what I get, three days in".
- President Mike Huckabee? - New York Times (é do novo cronista do NYT, o neo-conservador William Kristol): "The best answer came, not surprisingly, from the best Republican campaigner so far — Mike Huckabee. He began by calmly mentioning his and Obama’s contrasting views on issues from guns to life to same-sex marriage. This served to remind Republicans that these contrasts have been central to G.O.P. success over the last quarter-century, and to suggest that Huckabee could credibly and comfortably make the socially conservative case in an electorally advantageous way."
- From Hype to Fear - New York Times (Paul Krugman): "Not to put too fine a point on it, Barack Obama won his impressive victory in Iowa with a sunny, upbeat message of change. But there’s a powerful political faction in this country that understands very well that any real change will create losers as well as winners. In particular, any serious progressive reform of health care, let alone a broader attempt to reduce middle-class insecurity and inequality, will have to mean higher taxes on the affluent. And members of that faction will do whatever it takes to scare people into believing that change means disaster for the economy. I don’t think they’ll succeed. But it would be a big mistake to assume that they won’t."
- US 'doomed' if creationist president elected: scientists: "'The logic that convinces us that evolution is a fact is the same logic we use to say smoking is hazardous to your health or we have serious energy policy issues because of global warming,' University of Michigan professor Gilbert Omenn told reporters at the launch of a book on evolution by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). 'I would worry that a president who didn't believe in the evolution arguments wouldn't believe in those other arguments either. This is a way of leading our country to ruin,' added Omenn, who was part of a panel of experts at the launch of 'Science, Evolution and Creationism.' Former Arkansas governor Huckabee said in a debate in May that he did not believe in evolution. "
